Our History
The Intex story begins in 1966 when two entrepreneurial brothers saw an opportunity to bring air mattresses with innovative designs made from sturdy, puncture-resistant vinyl to the United States market. The company quickly became the first to mass-produce and sell airbeds across the country.
In the 1970s, Intex turned its attention to developing some of the first-ever inflatable boats using improved vinyl constructed through the company’s own proprietary process. By the early 80s, Intex began expanding its catalog further by producing inflatable swimming pools and in-home water recreation products.
The real turning point came in 1984 when Intex established its Above Ground pools division and launched its first above-ground swimming pool product to the public. It featured a structure composed of a galvanized steel frame and durable laminated vinyl sidewalls. This strong yet lightweight pool was designed for quick and simple installation by the homeowner.
The above-ground pool was an instant success and helped establish Intex as one of the leaders in at-home backyard pool systems. Over the following decades, Intex continued to pioneer new technologies and set higher standards in pool design, performance, and durability as the demand for its products skyrocketed.
Today, Intex takes pride in being the #1 manufacturer of above-ground pools in the world. We currently offer an extensive selection of pool sets, replacement parts, accessories, and maintenance equipment. Our ever-growing global presence allows families everywhere to enjoy the Intex experience.
Our Facility
The Intex headquarters is located on over 5 acres in Long Beach, California housing our corporate offices and primary manufacturing center. This state-of-the-art facility contains over 400,000 sq. ft. of warehousing, distribution, and production space.
Intex pools are designed on-site by our research and development team and constructed using the latest technology in our advanced on-location factory. We perform rigorous quality control testing throughout the entire manufacturing process to ensure all products meet our strict standards.
In addition to the Long Beach complex, Intex operates facilities in Juarez, Mexico as well as China to produce certain components and accessories. We also have established warehouses across North America, Europe, and Australia allowing us to efficiently distribute products around the world.

Our Pools
With Intex Pools®, you get the freedom to choose the perfect pool for your backyard and lifestyle. We offer a wide selection of sizes, shapes, depths and designs:
- Round above-ground pools from 10 to 24 feet in diameter allow you to maximize swimming space. Their circular shape provides optimal flow and even water coverage.
- Oval above-ground pools range from 10 x 20 feet to 18 x 34 feet. The unique shape adds visual interest while the curved ends provide space to install accessories.
- Rectangular above-ground pools are available from 12 x 24 feet up to 32 x 16 feet. The long straight sides deliver ample room for exercise and lap swimming.
- Pool depths can vary from 42” for wading to 52” for diving boards. We have pools suitable for relaxation or serious swimmers.
- Choose from hard-side wall galvanized steel frame pools for durability or affordable soft-side wall designs that snap into place.
- Our exclusive Ultra-XTR TM line features extra strong, reinforced wall construction and premium multi-layer laminated liners.

Our Construction
All Intex frame pools are engineered using computer-assisted design and made with the finest materials. Our innovative construction delivers a number of advantages:

- Rust-resistant – Frames are coated with a special 2x rust protection formula to prevent corrosion and maintain strength. Provides 2x longer life than raw steel.
- Super-tough liners – Patented process fuses three durable layers into one reinforced material built to withstand years of use. Resists punctures, abrasions and damage from pool chemicals.
- Long-lasting – Steel structures and interlocking joints designed to withstand repeated assembly and disassembly without weakening or warping. Built to last season after season.
- Easy maintenance – Most pools include our efficient filter pump and skimmer to continuously clean and circulate water. Simple hook-up and maintenance.
